Want to know where your salary goes each month? Enter your actual monthly take-home pay and expected expenses below. The calculator adds up your spending, shows what remains, and helps you spot a shortfall before debit orders arrive. Values are in South African rand (R).
Build your monthly budget
The amounts below are fictional examples, not typical household costs. Replace them with your own figures. Nothing you type is sent to RandLoom or saved by this calculator.

This tool treats your input as monthly amounts and does not calculate taxes or interest. For irregular costs, enter the amount you intend to reserve each month. No account or banking details are required.
How to interpret the result
If your balance is positive, you have not yet allocated that amount of your take-home pay. That does not mean the money is automatically available for spending: you may have missed expenses such as school uniforms, medical visits, vehicle licensing or unexpected repairs. Consider assigning part of your surplus to an emergency fund or irregular-expense reserve.
If your balance is negative, your current plan commits more money than you expect to receive. Review adjustable costs, check whether all amounts are correct and contact creditors early if minimum repayments are unaffordable. Simply omitting a debt payment from the calculator does not solve the obligation. See our guide to unaffordable debt repayments for safer first steps.
What about an irregular income?
If your pay changes from month to month, build a baseline around a cautious amount that you can reasonably expect. Keep higher-month earnings separate until you decide whether to build a buffer or cover upcoming bills. Our irregular-income budgeting guide shows a method for seasonal and fluctuating earnings.
Example: How much room does a R10,000 budget have?
The default example allocates R3,000 to housing, R2,200 to groceries, R1,500 to transport, R700 to utilities, R1,000 to debt, R400 to savings and R600 to other costs. These amounts total R9,400, leaving R600 to be assigned. The illustrative savings allocation is 4% of take-home pay. Adjust the figures to reflect your household; this isn't a recommended spending breakdown.
